If you smell gas, immediately extinguish all smoking materials and any open flames. In addition, do not operate any lights, telephones, appliances or cell phones as flames or sparks from these sources might cause an explosion or fire. If you smell propane gas that you think might be leaking, immediately leave the area and get everyone out of the area or the building where you suspect that gas might be leaking. Once you leave the area, you should locate and shut off the main gas supply valve on your propane tank, once it is safe to do so.
Once you've exited the area and are safely away from the source of the propane gas smell, you should report the leak immediately from a neighbor's home or other nearby location by calling Progas immediately. If you can't reach your propane retailer, call 911 or your local the local fire department immediately. Above all, do not return to the building until your propane retailer or the fire department has determined that it is ok to do so.
Finally, you should always have a trained and qualified service technician from your local propane retailer perform a complete propane system check and any of your propane appliances to be sure they remain completely leak free before you attempt using them.
